Inspired by the other great blogs in this day and age we thought it was time for our small tribe to participate in the conversations that are occurring in the large community of bloggers. So here it is. Our place to converse with friends, family and any other visitor that stumbles in. Everyone is welcome – that’s the way a community should be.
So the first challenge that one faces when creating a blog is picking the name for the blog. It’s a lot of responsibility because the whole identity and purpose for being is in the name. There’s a lot to a name. And a name is rather permanent, like a tattoo. So I thought I’d look for some tips on getting a tattoo before I selected our identity for this little blog. Here’s what I found:
Tattooing Tips – 5 Tips to Tattoo Appointment Day
Tip 1: No Booze!
Tip 2: Go in super clean!
Tip 3: Wear comfortable clothes to your appointment!
Tip 4: Take a DISTRACTION for yourself.
Tip 5: Eat something before you go.
This is clearly sound advice from someone who knows what they’re talking about. So let’s walk through it. I’m watching D (that’s how we’ll reference Danica around here) today while Lish (that’s how we’ll reference Alicia) works. I haven’t had any booze. I got a shower this morning and I double shampooed like always, so I am indeed super clean. It’s Saturday which means I’m not wearing work clothes and therefore I’m guaranteed to be comfortable. The TV is on, but it’s really background noise as it’s competing with D and The Champ (The Champ will be respected by using his full name on all entries) who are both snoring through their afternoon naps as they lie next to me. About an hour ago I hit the new DQ by our house so the belly is full. Looks like I’m all ready to name this blog.
I heard this word ‘faction’ the other day, it wasn’t the first time I’d heard it, but I’ve never used it before. In the context that it was used, I felt like I had a pretty good understanding of it. But, I hate people that misuse words so whenever I hear a word that I’ve never used, I immediately look it up in the dictionary that came with my Mac, then I make every effort to use it properly in the next few days so that it becomes part of my vocabulary. I love people with big vocabularies. Like those fine folks over at the Vileationnation. Amy has a great vocabulary. Some people have bo staff skills, but Amy has mad vocab skills. Anyways, here’s a definition for ‘faction’:
faction 1 ˈfak sh ən
noun
a small, organized, dissenting group within a larger one,
This definition is probably the more commonly used form of the word. It’s certainly fitting for our tribe. We’re still relatively small (just the four of us). We’re pretty organized and united in our hearts and minds. As for the dissenting part, well we look at life differently than a lot of people and have opinions on things that are different from the masses. It’s not a negative or violent type of dissenting, it’s just different. And it works for us. And that’s what matters. I think it’s good to be a dissenter about something. It means that you’re passionate about something and that you’ve taken the time to think through it. Thinking is good. More people should try it. At least that’s what we think.
So that’s what this little blog will be about. We’ll share about us, our thoughts, and our feelings, but only if you promise to do the same.

I don’t understand why you need to double shampoo? I know the bottle says to “wash, rinse and repeat”, but come on that only applies if you have early 90’s Cindy Crawford hair. With your hair style, you could probably get away with using a wet nap.

Well it’s a good thing that I am a frequent visitor in the Land O’Leary or else I would never know about the public dissention of the Rath family.
I cannot get over the gracious and startlingly incorrect shout-out I recevied for my vocab skills. My bo staff skills are far more mad than my vocab skills, but I’ll take what I can get.
Also, wait until Kevin sees that you’re reading Matt Hughes’s book. I don’t know that Kevin has read anything ever (except the cable guide to know when stuff about Matt Hughes is on TV), but if I tell him about this I imagine we’ll be on our way to Borders tonight. Love that Shelfari. We at the Vileation Nation need to get some Shelfari.
I apologize for the lengthy comment but I’m just over the moon with excitement about this blog. You seem to be under-cover, relying on word-of-mouth perhaps, so I will not post your link until I have permission. I know how prone you guys are to dissention and I don’t want it to reflect negatively over at the V. Nation.
Incidentally, almost through with with Velvet Elvis…great thoughts. I think you are a fabulous writer (although I’m looking forward to hearing from D, Lish and The Champ some day as well) and should continue to use your gift as much as possible. You sound kind of like the Velvet Elvis guy. Insightful, poignant.
Not unlike those from the Land O’Leary.
Well, I’m off to get a tattoo. Your blog inspired me. That was the point, right? To tell us how to prepare for a tattoo? I’m going to get a tattoo of booze.
